My Toronto Includes Matt Blackett

Matt Blackett, local media mogul
Exploring some back alleys north of Queen and west of Lansdowne.

what is your most favourite place in the city? My favourite place in the city is the laneways. I love how they are a mix bag of old and new Toronto. neighbours interact back there and at times provides a safe place for kids to play.

What is it that you like about this location? I have described alleys something like this: our front yards are what we want to the world to see, like when we dress up to go to a club or party. But alleys reveal our secrets, kinda like waking up to your lover for the first time and seeing that their face and hair gets all mussed up.

Where is the best place to eat in the city? Utopia on College.

What do you like about living in Toronto? It’s home. I have a rich family history in the area and have a lot of roots here.

What do you hate about living in Toronto? The smog, the slow pace of getting things done at City Hall, the suburbs.

Where would I find you on a lazy Sunday afternoon in the city? My back patio lying on the hammock.

Who is your favourite Local Celebrity? Jane Jacobs

Car, Bike or Transit? Bike

Favorite personal story or commentary on the city My friend’s dog ran away from him at Cherry beach. Somehow the dog managed to get back to his place at Yonge and King without assistance. The dog ran up the car ramp into the garage and sat by the door to the elevators waiting for his owner to come home. The security guard called him to tell him where the dog was. The dog ran 6km home across Lakeshore Blvd, across Parlaiment, Sherbourne, Jarvis, Church, Front and King.

My Toronto includes a side of fries.
